For years, electrical estimators have known where the money leaks: emergency lighting circuits assumed to be someone else's scope, earthing electrode assemblies that never make it out of the specification narrative, fire alarm cable segregation buried in a general clause. These are not exotic cases. They are the same three patterns, project after project.
What is new in 2026 is not the pattern — it is the tooling. A modern estimator can now hand a project's drawings, specifications and addenda to an AI in minutes and get back an itemised extraction with the standard-referenced gaps flagged. Not a "check this list" prompt. Cross-referenced findings.
Meanwhile, CPR 2024/3110 landed on 8 January this year and the Digital Product Passport registry goes live on 19 July. Public procurement is not going to wait. If your bid workflow still runs on Excel and coffee, you are competing with firms whose 2 AM deadlines look calmer than yours.
The three patterns to attack first:
- TN-S references without earthing detail. If the spec calls a TN-S
- system, every bid needs the earthing electrode, PE conductor route, and
- equipotential bonding priced. It is one clause reference to remember —
- DIN VDE 0100-410 §411.3 — and it is missed in about one bid out of three.
- Emergency lighting in Division 01 only. The spec's general conditions
- often reference escape-route illumination without repeating it inside the
- electrical division. Your Division 26 pricing walks away without the
- emergency circuits.
- Fire alarm segregation clauses not in the cable schedule. DIN VDE
- 0833-1 requires dedicated fire-alarm cable segregation. If your cable
- schedule inherited from a similar project, it may quietly skip it.
None of these are new problems. But in 2026, all three can be automated at the intake step of every bid.
